Pressure Treated Decks
Screened in Porches
Although there are many product choices building a deck, the one that has been tried and true is pressure treated. What was once called salt treated because of the manner in which it was treated, pressure treated is usually southern yellow pine which has been treated to prevent rotting. While usually having a green tint to it while it is new, it soon fades to a new wood look which is sometimes light gray. There are several reasons to choose this material, First, is cost. Although it is available in two grades, one with less knots and imperfections, it is still the least expensive. Second is availability. It can be purchased almost anywhere lumber is sold. Another reason is the ease of use and the familiarity of it. Finally, it looks and feels like wood, because it is. This is not necessarily the case with other products.
