Most of us wish that our homes were more maintenance free. This is one reason that there are so many alternative decking products on the market. Most of these products are composite materials containing various percentages of PVC (a type of vinyl) and hardwood. These products are non rot and require very little maintenance. There are many on the market which vary in colors, grain pattern and density. Other than the looks of one product versus another, the harder products scuff less and are more resistant to stains and oil saturation from grilling. Another option is vinyl decking products. These products are probably better functionally but lack the look and feel of wood. This may still be an option for those of us who like the solid look with function and durability in mind.
